Yew Street Food Hall Construction in Full Swing... end of Summer to Early Fall Launch Targeted

Kamloops, B.C. – The team behind the Yew Street Food Hall is in full-on construction mode, getting the 7,000 square foot facility located on the ground floor of The Colours on Spirit Square at 107 Yew Street ready for opening day.

“It’s an exciting time for us as we start to see the Food Hall concept coming close to becoming a reality,” said Jeff Mitton, one of the partners of the Yew Street Food Hall. “We are also very excited to have a number of partners confirmed to be a part of the Food Hall family when we open our doors later this summer or early fall.”

The Yew Street Food Hall at full capacity will have seating for 222 with the hope of also accommodating outdoor seating. Of the 10 available food stalls, eight are already spoken for and Mitton believes each vendor is an ideal fit to make the vision a success.

“We had an excellent response when we first announced the concept of the Yew Street Food Hall with an anchor restaurant, two bars, and seven additional 80 square foot ‘stalls’ for partner vendors. Food providers throughout our region and beyond connected with us to see how they could be a part of this concept with their unique, signature menus. We believe our food hall will become a go-to spot in Kamloops because of the diversity of vendors and their menu offerings, all in one vibrant location.”

One of those vendors is Chef Govinda Clayton who will open the Veggie Bomb, promising to cook up an explosion of flavour with his ‘vegefied’ street food menu.

“Our company started in 2015 by my brother Vasudev and I,” said Clayton. “We were one of the first all-vegan catering companies to feed large event crowds and we’ve operated food trucks in both Los Angeles and in our beautiful community of Kamloops. The Yew Street Food Hall will be our first bricks and mortar location and we cannot wait to feed our guests our signature hearty bowls, loaded hoagies, batter-fried cauliflower wings, and ‘meetball’ tacos. Everything is delicious and made entirely from vegetables.”

Clayton was introduced to the Yew Street Food Hall concept while working at the Kamloops Farmers’ Market earlier this year. With aspirations to try a bricks and mortar location yet knowing the higher costs and processes involved in opening a location, the opportunity to be a vendor at the Food Hall was too good to pass up.

“The Food Hall will provide a unique dining experience for our guests, and we hope to bring our enthusiasm to make the entire vision a success,” said Clayton. “Coming to the Food Hall and being able to see others experiencing and enjoying dishes that may have been outside of their comfort zone can only bring good things. It will allow all vendors a chance to showcase dishes and experiment with seasonal offerings while learning from one another’s business strategies, staffing management, and more. As a team who thrives on connections and creating lasting relationships, we can’t wait to get going!

”The other confirmed vendors opening their food stalls in the next few months include Pizza Pi, Harvest Moon Bakery, Mittz & Co, and two stalls yet to be named with fresh pasta and street tacos. Mitton confirms there are just two spots left for entrepreneurs looking for an exciting, low-risk opportunity to open a bricks and mortar location.

“The costs associated with setting up a stall at the Yew Street Food Hall are drastically minimized because we all will share space, marketing, and customers. Not only will vendors have the opportunity to learn from each other, but we all will cross promote each other, getting our loyal customers to give our partner vendors a try. It’s collective collaboration at its finest in celebration of great food, great drinks, and coming together as a community.”
